Sasquatch! 2012

April 27, 2012

Here’s my design for this year’s Sasquatch! Music Festival. I got to do this for Beats Antique, a super original band from California that combines music and performance art.

The band often performs with masks and costumes, I was inspired by this Japanese mask in particular.

Hope you like it. Ill post some more pics when the poster is printed.

In a Bossa Nova Mood

June 28, 2011

Here’s a new CD I designed and Illustrated for Starbucks. It’s a cool collection of classic and modern Bossa Nova. I tried to represent the cadence of the music through the use of vibrant, bold colors. The packaging tells the store of a muse, the modern take on the classic muse portrayed in the old Bossa records. My good friend Francesca Merlini helped me with the concept and wrote some of the copy. And if that wasn’t enough, her band Passarim is also featured in the CD.

Do yourselves a favor and pick up a copy of this cool CD at your local Starbucks. More pics on my website.

Taller en Vida pictures

June 21, 2011

Finally had a chance to catch up with work after getting back from Mexico. It was a short but nice visit. I had a chance to see lots of family and friends. One of the highlights of the trip was without a doubt the Taller en Vida.
We got together on a Saturday and did small live printing poster event at 75º. We sold some prints, had some beers and had lots of fun. Here are some pictures from the printing event and the final posters, which by the way, came out great.
The posters are 4 colors and printed in heavy-stock French paper. Very good quality printing and paper. If you are interested in one, let me know.
Cheers.

Taller en Vida

May 23, 2011

I’m going to Mexico to see my family for a few days. While I’m there, I’m gonna have the chance to print some posters with Print Master Arturo Negrete of 75º.
I’m super excited since this is my first time producing something in my Mexico City since I left. I will be producing (hopefully) two prints and I will be printing live along with Artutro at his shop on Saturday June 4th. It should be fun.
I will be posting some pictures of the event as well as the posters. In the meantime, here is the flyer I made.

Pío Pío

March 27, 2011

Here is a smal illo I pulled from my sketchbook. I used some watercolor and my favorite pen, the Faber-Castell PITT artist pen.
I put some more pages from my sketchbook over at my website. I love looking at other people’s sketchbooks, so I decided to put up some of my own.

A la Muerte con una sonrisa

January 2, 2010

Back in October the Mexican Museum of Design (MUMEDI) put out a call to artists. The name of the project was “To Death with a smile” and it was sponsored by Adobe. I made 3 posters, but none were selected to be finalists. I went to the exhibit this past December and saw some good posters, but I also saw (like my friend Toki says) a gaggle of stinkers. Anyways, here are mine, the first two are just ok, I like the last one myself. I’m also showing you some of the initial sketches. The last one says “Guendaguti” which is Zapoteco(my grandparents’ native dialect from Oaxaca) for “death”.

Guadalupe

December 18, 2008

I was supposed to post this on the 12th, the  day of  Guadalupe. I didn’t have time as usual, but here it is. I think it came out ok. Here is the sketch I did in the wood and the final version.

Día de muertos

November 5, 2008

So this past Saturday November First we had a show in Tether for the Day of the Dead. It was super cool. We got a bunch of posters from Dr. Alderete and CHema Skandl, toys from Zoveck, masks, etc.

The main attraction however was my dear friend Cindy Small. Her artwork is amazing and it was perfect for the show. Also my cousin Yaen came from Mexico with a few photographs, they were awesome.

I made a few pieces for the show as well, I might post them here later on. I had a lot of fun, drank beer, saw friends, we even had a taco truck!
