Last year I made some Halloween tumblers and now they finally came out. Here are some sketches I did before they picked out the finals. I thought they weren’t going to use them, so when I saw them last night at the store I was pretty surprised. I drew all of them with ink and a calligraphy pen on watercolor paper, then I colored them in photoshop.

The tumbler is a lenticular, so I did a few variations of color and positioning to make the illo “move”. Here’s a little gif so you can see what it looks like:

So finally I made the poster. I had a rough idea of what I wanted to do, I knew I wanted a Sasquatch, but I didn’t know how to relate it to Of Montreal. I made a few sketches, but I wasn’t happy with it. Here’s one example, I like the composition and the type, but it doesn’t have any references to the band.

So later on I thought it would be cool to make a reference to the actual Montreal, even though the band is from Georgia. So I drew Sasquatch with a Hockey Jersey. I liked the drawing but the composition wasn’t working on the poster format.

Finally I came up with another sketch, this time I think works with the poster format and also touches on my hockey concept. Here is the sketch.

 And here is the final version with color. Just two colors, it’s easier and I think it works well with the illo. I added some maple leaves in the back, just to give it more balance, although I like white space, it was just too much. So here it is.

ps. I realized that I put the 29th instead of 24th just in time and corrected the file just before burning the screen! pheew! so the final posters will be fine.

I’ve been designing posters for the Sasquatch! Music Festival for the past few years. I didn’t do it last year, I didn’t even go, but this year I got the invite to design a poster again. I got Of Montreal. I have a few of their albums on my ipod, I like them, I think it will be fun. So far I have no idea what I’ll come up with, but as soon as I do, I will post some sketches or something here. I’m still undecided on the printing, I’ve been printing all my posters myself, I enjoy it, but it is hard when you have to burn, reclaim, print, etc. yourself. We’ll see.

I was supposed to post this on the 12th, the  day of  Guadalupe. I didn’t have time as usual, but here it is. I think it came out ok. Here is the sketch I did in the wood and the final version.

After the show at Tether, a few people asked me about some doing some paintings for them. This is a very rough sketch of a painting I’m doing for a friend of mine. I think it’s pretty obvious what it is. I’m having fun with this one. I’ll post the completed painting once it’s finished.

So this past Saturday November First we had a show in Tether for the Day of the Dead. It was super cool. We got a bunch of posters from Dr. Alderete and CHema Skandl, toys from Zoveck, masks, etc.

The main attraction however was my dear friend Cindy Small. Her artwork is amazing and it was perfect for the show. Also my cousin Yaen came from Mexico with a few photographs, they were awesome. 

I made a few pieces for the show as well, I might post them here later on. I had a lot of fun, drank beer, saw friends, we even had a taco truck!

So the day I picked up my Zoveck toy, I also picked up the great book “Yo soy un Don Nadie” by the great Dr. Alderete. If you don’t know Alderete’s work, man you are missing out, check out some of his poster work and be amazed.

I asked Jorge to sign me a copy and to my surprise he not only signed it, but he drew a cool skull on it! Check it out!
