Nautical

January 20, 2012

Here’s my illo for this wee’s theme at Ten Paces & Draw. I have to say, I was kinda scared of this one because when I got the sketch, I wasn’t sure if it was a depiction of an actual story or something. I gave it a try anyways. The sketch was done by rad illustrator Yasmeen Ismail. Hope you like it.

The Maitlands

January 13, 2012

I went to bed pretty late last night, I worked on this new illo for the Ten Paces & Draw blog. The theme this week was Teen Movies, the sketch I based my illustration on was done by awesome illustrator Abigail Shaw. As soon as I saw the sketch I was pretty excited, one, because I love Beetlejuice, and two, because I love drawing weird stuff.

Here are the Maitlands.

Diego

November 18, 2011

Here’s a sketch I did a few days ago. Like I’ve said before, I’m not that good with portraits, but I decided to give it a shot anyways and try to do one of my favorite artists, Diego Rivera. I still don’t know what I’m going to do with it.

Jazz Manouche

November 5, 2011

I was invited to participate in the Ten Paces and Draw blog. It’s a super cool idea, you give a bunch of illustrators a theme and then they sketch out their ideas, then the sketches are swapped and whatever sketch they get, they have to illustrate.

This week’s theme was Fan Art. This is my illustration based on a sketch by the talented Andrew Lyons. The concept is Jazz Manouche or Gipsy Jazz. I didn’t know these two guys were supposed to be Django Reinhart and Stéphane Grappelli wen I got the sketch, I thought they were just random dudes, that’s why they don’t look quite like the actual guys. Well, that and the fact that I can’t really draw portraits. And they are skulls.

November 3, 2011

Here’s a small sketch celebrating my favorite holiday. Day of the dead. It’s just a sketch, someday maybe I’ll finish it. We’ll see.

Quijada

October 27, 2011

I lived in the beautiful State of Veracruz, Mexico from elementary through middle school. During those years I was exposed to the traditional music from Veracruz, called Son Jarocho. One of the most unusual instruments played in Son Jarocho is the Quijada de Burro (Donkey’s Jaw.) The Quijada is played with a deer’s antler. As weird as it sounds, the quijada is the perfect percussion instrument! Here‘s an example of the quijada being played in a Son Jarocho.

So I decided to do this little dude playing the quijada for the Day of the Dead.

Work in Progress

October 16, 2011

Just trying to post some stuff I’ve been working on. I’ve been busy with freelance so I haven’t had a chance to work on personal stuff that much. Here’s a sketch I’m hopefully going to have ready for the Day of the Dead.
Maybe I’ll make some prints.

Dog & Pony

August 12, 2011

A few weeks ago the Creative Studio got together and decided to produce a show that would serve as a fundraiser for charity. After a few meetings and brainstorming, I came up with the name Dog & Pony. I thought it was a fun way of representing the quirky spirit of the studio.

The project consisted of 17 teams, two people per team. Each team designed a poster. The posters were printed by the great folks at Capitol City Press. I gotta thank John Currey and Mike Thompson who helped me and the project by donating the printing. It wouldn’t have been possible to do the project without them.

The posters are now for sale at the Starbucks Store located on the 8th floor of the Seattle headquarters. So far this is the only place where you can get the posters. We will look into selling the posters online and will keep you posted. And I will post pics of the rest of the posters, there are some great ones!

Here is the logo and some of the initial ideas I had. The logo stayed pretty much like my initial sketch, I tried some other options but I wasn’t happy with it. So here is the final version. I like.

There's nothing better than a rubber stamp of a logo you've made.

Some of the ideas I had. The bottom left sketch was the one I developed.
